The VAST lab, directed by Dr. T. Boult, is actively pursuing research in both vision and security. In 2003, the VAST lab moved from Lehigh University to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Particular areas of research depend on both funding and students interests. We currently have funding (either direct or with company partners) from ONR, Rome Labs (Air Force), US Army Research Labs, Missile Defense Agency, US Department of Education, and NISSC with multiple pending proposals. We are working with local industry in Colorado Springs, as well as maintaining relation we established at Lehigh including Siemens, and the Hershey Medical Center.
The current research project at the VAST lab at UCCS is in the field of video surveillance systems, biometrics, biometric fusion, supporting trauma treatment, steganalysis, network security, detection of chemical and biological weapons.
