Personal Assignment 2: Due ??
You will develop a personal financial projection spreadsheet. First
part of the assignment is to develop a detailed estimate of your
expected yearly costs for 2008, 2010, 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2045. Your
budget should be separated into "Required expences", "expected
expenses" and "discretionary expenses", with a sub total sum formula
for each. The Budget should be detailed and describe assumptions
(e.g. food is $50 per week over the year, clothing, transportaiton,
family costs, education, vacations, travel. ) You grade will depend,
in part, on you having a relatively complete budget model (not
everything you need is listed above) and justificaitons for the
numbers. If you need help on what should be in a "family" budget I really
recommend you ask your parents :-)
The second part of it the assignment is to take adapt that basic
budget and estiamte the surplus (loss) under 6 different career scenarios:
- 1 career of your choice
- engineering (pick one specialty)
- One business subfield (accounting, marketing, etc...)
- engineering+management
- non-medical life sciences (e.g. biology)
- high-school teacher
You should justifiy your income estimates (e.g. cite the url). You
may need/want to adapt your budget based on each the career choice, which
should be explained. If you feel they don't need to be adjusted
explain that as well. You may make some simplifying assumptions, as
long as they are explained. You can make complex multi-column tables or simply
have each carrer on a different sheet. You will be graded, in part,
on data collected, integration of the data with your budget and the
overall formatting and presentation. Save in excel 2003 or openoffice, or google spreadsheet,
NOT excell 2007 (xlsx)
